eSystems – Bosch eBike Systems for 2024

October 25, 2023 - Bosch eBike System’s new Performance Line SX e-drive system combines high performance with low weight, aimed at more active/sporty riders. In addition, a new Performance Line Sprint version (Class 3 / up to 28mph) will be available in the US and New Zealand only.

The drive unit, with a peak power of up to 600W, weighs around 4.4 lbs and delivers a maximum torque of 55Nm, along with a power-to-weight ratio of up to 300 watts per kilogram.

For eMTB riders, the benefits will be noticeable on trails with frequent technical sections and tight bends, including steep uphill sections.

This is supplemented by the dynamic- progressively tuned Tour+ and eMTB riding modes, which can be customized using Bosch’s eBike Flow app.

The Performance Line SX system sports a new CompactTube 400 battery, one of the lightest in Bosch’s e-bike portfolio, and it features the highest energy density thanks to its innovative cell technology. Weighing around 4.4 lbs, the battery has a capacity of 400Wh, which can be increased via a new PowerMore 250 range extender that weighs approx. 3.5 lbs.

Suitable for gravel routes or commuting to the office, a new Sprint riding mode was also developed to match the new drive units and support riders according to their own power to deliver a more natural riding feel. This new mode helps riders to quickly reach and maintain higher speeds — the faster you pedal, the higher the level of support.

Also new and optimally adapted to gravel e-bikes is a Mini Remote Dropbar control unit, which can be mounted to dropbar handlebars with a larger diameter (1.25 inches), to the left of the stem, and allows riders to expand the range of functions.

According to Bosch, the two new drive units deliver further optimizations withlow-noise motors and gearbox concepts. Thanks to a new sealing concept and narrow cranks (Q factor: 6.3 in), the pedal resistance is barely noticeable. The first models with the Performance Line SX are expected to be available in winter 2023.

New Displays and Features
With the new Purion 200, Bosch presents a compact control unit that also functions as a colour display which can be optimally read when riding even in changing light conditions for important information such as battery charge percentage, riding mode, time and total distance. Another advantage is that the Purion 200 can be combined with a second display, which can be used as a navigation screen for example if required.

Another new addition is the Kiox 500 colour display with a 2.8-inch (diagonal) screen that’s about 40% larger than the Kiox 300; this display can be read safely and quickly, even under demanding conditions. In the future, both displays will be customizable via the eBike Flow app to assist in determining the order and content of the info displayed.

Flow+
In 2024, Bosch eBike Systems is introducing the Flow+ premium subscription, which initially will include a premium service eBike Alarm. Users can activate Flow+ via the app or Play Store and can opt-in for a monthly ($4.99 US) or annual subscription ($39.99 US). The first twelve months are free, and the premium subscription will be expanded in the future to include further additional services and functions.

In addition, for 2024, the eBike Flow app will provide more training-relevant information, such as the number of calories burned in the statistics area of the app, to complement the performance measurement data and help riders to optimize their rides and improve their fitness level.
