FedEx Video on Success of eCargo Bikes and Plans to Expand in North America

by eBikes International

October 26, 2020 - In July, FedEx Canada took delivery of three Bullitt e-cargo bikes as part of test for small package deliveries in the downtown Toronto area and this recent video attests to the success of the program launched in only 8 weeks.

As reported earlier, FedEx Canada, Curbside Cycle and the Pembina Institute conducted a review of current legislation with an eye to future legislation around e-assist cargo bikes – read more here.

In Europe, cargo bikes have been used with great success for decades for “last mile deliveries.” Research shows that this “last mile” costs up to 50% of a package’s total cost, mostly due to gridlock. Designed to lower costs, decrease emissions, and raise efficiencies for small package delivery e-cargo bikes are the way of the future.

“This e-bike represents innovation, and that’s something we’re always thinking about at FedEx. From concept to market we managed to get the bike on-road in 8 weeks,” says Jeff Gilbert, Manager of Operations at FedEx Canada.

The company worked with Cycle Toronto to help train workers who love the concept of saving time, money, the environment, avoiding gridlock and enjoying the sunshine.

“We’ve been delivering packages for 40 years and to move to something so innovative makes us very excited that we’re going to expand the e-cargo bike program across Canada and North America,” added Gilbert.
