FedEx Pilot in Toronto & Purolator’s Colibri in Montreal Herald e-Cargo Bike Success

November 29, 2020 - A FedEx e-cargo bike pilot project in downtown Toronto and Purolator’s Colibri project launched in Sept. 2019 signal big changes that favour eco-friendly urban deliveries by e-cargo bikes in major centres across North America according to a report in the CBC’s The National.

Montreal’s Colibri project was officially launched by Jalon with mayor Valérie Plante, city counsellor Robert Beaudry, John Ferguson, CEO Purolator Inc., and Raymond Leduc, chairperson of the Board of Directors, Jalon. Colibri program manager, Mickael Brard, says the new hub set up and e-cargo bikes are making almost 5,000 deliveries per week and it’s not only profitable but much more efficient and eco-friendly.

According to Jeff Gilbert, FedEx Senior Operations Manager, “E-commerce is not going way. The trends we’re seeing are here to stay and the e-cargo bikes are definitely giving us an adavantage in those markets.” – more on the FedEx pilot here.

Carolyn Kim, Director of Transportation at the Pembina Institute, supports these eco-friendly “last mile” deliveries to reduce carbon emissions, while Sam Starr of Critical Mobility suggests government support and input is vital to ensure full, smooth and safe integration into communities.
