January 11, 2026 - Designed in the heart of Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel district, FOLD has won the German Design Award 2026 in “Excellent Product Design – Bicycles and E-Bikes” as the world’s first fully-fledged foldable cargo bike.

According to the Jury, “In just two moves, it folds onto its own loading surface in under 20 seconds – more compact than a regular bicycle. Its patented mechanism ensures maximum stability with full load capacity. A distinctive folding mechanism that effortlessly combines stability and compactness makes “FOLD” a characterful statement in urban mobility. The modular construction impresses with its clear design language and sustainable reparability. The consistent blend of everyday usability and aesthetic rigor is particularly impressive, setting an exceptional benchmark rarely found in this field.”

With only 31 cm standard width, Fold is as agile as a regular bike and thanks to the foldable basket and foldable platform, it expands to 61 cm. With a Shimano Alfine 8 drivetrain, Tektro brakes, and Schwalbe tires, the adjustable Satori handlebar and foldable steering column adapts to any rider thanks to its locking pin system.

Available in a mini version, there are also e-Fold and e-Fold Mini models offered with Shimano’s EP6 e-drive and 504Wh battery, or Bosch’s Performance Line CX Gen5 system with a 545Wh battery.
Accessories include baskets, seats, and platform or rain cover, and each module integrates seamlessly into the system.

As a passionate cyclist, FOLD founder Sahabi Arouna swears by the versatility of cargo bikes and has successfully delivered a more compact, unique and functional design that “creates space — while saving it.”
