GLEAM eCargo Bikes based in Austria Files for Bankruptcy after 10 Years in eMobility Segment

release by GLEAM Technologies GmbH

July 28, 2023 - In a heartfelt letter, Mario Eibl, the CEO and founder of GLEAM Technologies GmbH, announced that the company must file for bankruptcy according to the Austrian commercial court and will shut down operations on August 26, 2023.

After 10+ years in the emission-free mobility segment, GLEAM’s sad news follows on the heels of the recent bankruptcy of VanMoof, a global Dutch e-bike company. Eibl and his team expressed thanks to their partners and supporters, and remain hopeful. “We are still working on a solution to make GLEAM fit again, because we still believe in this product – we know GLEAM can be successful – and will do everything that’s necessary to make emission free mobility happen.” – see his full letter below.

Dear GLEAM partner, customers, suppliers, investors, and friends & family,

We have some bad news. Unfortunately, GLEAM – the eCargo bike company with tilting technology – had to file for bankruptcy and needed to shut down the organisation according to the Austrian commercial court on the 26th of August of 2023. You were an important part of our company’s growth and we want to update you here personally!

We have invested as a team over 10 years in the emission free mobility segment, have built and shipped many great eBikes and this would have not been possible without your support.

If you want to buy assets (IP, Brand, Toolings,…) out of the company, or start a NewCo with us, you can also reach out to the Founder and former CEO, Mario Eibl at mario@gleam-bikes.com. Currently the Deadline to make an offer to buy all off the Assets is 9th of August 2023.

After that, all the physical parts will be sold off on the auction Platform “Aurena” (https://www.aurena.at/), including Spare parts, some superstructures which are on stock etc. Otherwise, we currently can’t take any further orders unfortunately.

If you have open invoices, other legal or warranty claims, please reach out to the responsible legal representative Dr. Konezny or the commercial court Vienna (GZ 4 S 69/23h).

We want to let you know that you can find all the manuals for service and maintenance at www.gleam-bikes.com/service. We recommend you download the PDF-Files as soon as possible before the website will be shut down. We strive to enable the existing fleet of GLEAM bikes to continue running smoothly for as long as possible.  To allow that we will make our service and user manuals openly available and are in discussions about what further IP can be made available.  We are also trying to find a solution to make critical Gleam-specific spare parts available in the future. For service of standard components, reach out to the suppliers: Magura/MBPS for Bosch, Polini, Enviolo, Gates, Fox, etc.

Thank you for your understanding, we are truly sorry to see this end and acknowledge the inconvenience that this will cause.

We are still trying hard to find a new home/buyer/shareholder for the brand, IP, product and the team and we hope that we can again provide a great service to your existing bikes after we have a new home.

But in the meantime, this means a hard stop for the emission free mobility solution from Austria/Vienna and the small but super motivated team we had built here.

As the founder of GLEAM I have to say this is a heartbreaking moment for me, and my family, after 10 years of working for this Vision almost without any salary. My team and I invested a lot of energy and passion to bring GLEAM on the road. We are still working on a solution to make GLEAM fit again, because we still believe in this product – we know GLEAM can be successful – and will do everything that’s necessary to make emission free mobility happen.

I am personally thankful for what we achieved together during our partnership and wish you all the best for your future.

With kind regards

Mario Eibl and the GLEAM team
