December 14, 2021 - After an intensive on-site test procedure by an international jury made up of cargo-bike experts, the awards for the “International Cargobike of the Year 2021” were presented at the 2nd National Bike Logistics Conference in Frankfurt am Main.
The international competition, which was held for the second time by HUSS-VERLAG, determined that the winners of professionally designed cargo bikes are Vowag (Heavy), eChike Cargo (Light), and Carla Cargo (Trailer).
The awards, which are categorized into three classes, reflect the trend towards cargo bike logistics and use in the commercial sector as well, and are determined by the specialist journal LOGISTRA from HUSS-VERLAG.
“Compared to two years ago, we are seeing a massive surge in innovation and professionalization in the industry and we had a veritable flood of registrations for the award,” said jury chairman Johannes Reichel at the award ceremony.
The on-site test on the grounds of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences was all the more exciting and intensive, who kindly made their campus area available for the extensive test drives and at the same time set an example for “applied sciences”.
Reichel also emphasized that the cargo bikes are well on their way to becoming profitable for logisticians in terms of robustness, practicality and economy – even though the acquisition costs are still quite high. There are fewer and fewer providers who are trying to be present in both B2B and B2C fields, and the trend is clearly towards focus and specialization. A list of candidates can be found here.
