September 7, 2020 - “The only one who knows this ounce of words is just a token, is he who has a ton to tell that must remain unspoken.” So wrote the musician and cult character Moondog who we celebrate with the new Moondog edition Bullitt.
This character who performed upon the streets of New York in the 1960’s clothed as a viking has garnered such legendary status over the years due to his incredible music, poetry and style. He integrated into busy metropolitan streets and drew mixed reactions from passers-by, who either relished in his eccentricity and incredible performance or saw him as an irritation and a social outlier.
This mythical status resonated with us in many respects and felt really fit the bill for our new navy coloured Bullitts and eBullitts. Not a limited edition, Moondog is now a permanent addition to the Larry vs Harry line-up and we are in love with it.
Moondog is just the start of a new and refreshed bunch of Bullitt models. Some colours have changed, some names have change and all the graphics have changed. We’ll be dropping teasers and small hints over the course of the next few weeks.
But that is by no means our only exciting news for this week. As many of you have probably noticed, Shimano announced their EP8 Steps motors and electric assist system this week. These will replace the 8000 series and we are thrilled to announce we’ll be stocking the new EP8 as our new flagship eBullitt. Initial models will be available as an external derailleur XT Di2 option. Subsequently we will be stocking it with the Nexus 5 and Alfine 11 Di2 internal hub gears in both chain and Gates beltdrive variations.
We have had a pre production test motor mounted up on an eBullitt for the last few months and confirm it is both stronger, lighter and more efficient. The power is bumped up from a max of 70N/m to 85N/m and according to Shimano also has reduced drag resistance by 36%. This figure is somewhat difficult to quantify but we can definitely feel way less drag once you get up to full speed and this will undoubtably have a very positive impact on battery life. The etube firmware has also undergone a large overhaul and the dreaded WO13 error code when starting up the system and applying pressure on the pedals has been resolved. The EP8 is an incredible development for Shimano and we are wholeheartedly behind them and believe Steps is the best performing electric assist system for the Bullitt.
We have a lot of these on order and the first couple of deliveries have already been snapped up by dealers so the best option is to contact your local Larry vs Harry distributor or reseller to discuss options. Projected delivery for non preordered EP8 XT Di2 eBullitts is early 2021.
Have a wonderful week! Don’t forget to ride….the weather is turning and those beautiful autumnal bicycle trips beckon.
