Llama Containerized eCargo Bikes Announces Closure and Wind Down of its Business

April 30, 2024 - (Westmister, CA) Llama containerized cargo bikes, based in Westmister, CA, has announced that it is closing its doors and winding down it’s business after nine years in the urban mobility sector. Founded in 2015 as URB-E by Sven Etzelsberger and Peter Lee, the company was known for pioneering micro-containers and last-mile urban logistics.

In early December 2023 it introduced Llama, its new identity, and an innovative, novel approach called “Micro-Containerization”, with collapsable micro-containers powered by a patented small electric vehicle and backed by fleet management software – read more here. The new system claimed to require five times less space than a vehicle or van to be stored or parked, and reduced CO2 emissions by 95% when compared to ICE vans and trucks.

The privately held company has 11-50 employees, and according to Llama, “We’ve already been getting a number of people wanting to know what will become of the groundbreaking Llama equipment. Stay tuned for a post on that in the next couple of days.”

After nine remarkable years of innovation and commitment in the green delivery and electric scooter industry, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Llama, formerly known as URB-E.

From pioneering consumer electric scooters to evolving into a platform for containerized cargo bikes, Llama has always strived to transform urban mobility. Our vehicles have traveled millions of miles, each mile replacing a car or van, helping to reduce emissions and ease congestion.

This journey of transforming urban landscapes could not have been possible without the unwavering support of our incredible investors, dedicated employees, loyal customers, and visionary founders.

As we close this chapter, we are hopeful and excited for the future of urban mobility. The innovations and ideas sparked by Llama aim to inspire the next generations of movers in this space. We look forward to seeing this industry continue to grow and evolve, fueled by the same passion and commitment that drove Llama.

Thank you to everyone who joined and supported us on this journey. Your belief in our mission has been invaluable!!
