Built to be the most powerful in their class and harnessing the leading tech available to e-bikes, both models are designed as odes to McLaren’s 60 years of racing history.
The 600W power unit boasts the most power and highest torque rating of any high-performance eMTB. Adjustable via five assist levels, you can tailor motor performance on the fly to perfectly suit the demands of the trail.
Rated to 600W normalized power, the custom-tuned mid-drive motor in the McLaren Extreme and Sport 600 is the most powerful in its class with 852W of peak power. More than any other metric, torque is critical to understanding an eMTB’s motor performance. The McLaren e-bikes have torque in spades — kicking out a class-leading 161Nm. The power unit weighs in at a remarkably light 3.6kgs, not only reducing the overall weight of the bikes but helping them achieve a stellar power-to-weight ratio.
For more than 40 years, McLaren has been an innovative leader in carbon fiber. Engineers invested thousands of hours to bring that legacy of performance to two wheels. In 1981 at the Argentine GP, the McLaren Formula 1 team forever changed the world of motorsport with its iconic MP4/1 race car — the first F1 car to employ a full carbon fiber monocoque body.
Now, the material is ubiquitous not just in the F1 paddock but in nearly every other aspect of motorsports and beyond, from racing to consumer car design. The material quickly caught hold worldwide, becoming the medium of choice in everything from aircraft to bicycles.
McLaren has continued to push the envelope of what is possible in carbon, using it as the core material for the brand’s supercars, F1 cars, and nearly everything else. So, when McLaren set out to build a pair of electric mountain bikes, carbon was naturally the material of choice.
Set into the custom one-piece carbon fiber handlebars is a digital dash that serves as the hub for the bike. Change power settings on the fly, keep track of important metrics, and toggle settings as needed.
