Montreal’s New Mayor to Review Four Bike Paths Flagged for Safety Concerns

February 15, 2026 - Montreal’s Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada recently announced plans to review four bike paths considered to be particularly problematic to identify safety issues and propose solutions reports CBC.

The paths under review are on Meilleur Street in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Rachel Street in Plateau-Mont-Royal, Côte-Sainte-Catherine Road in Outremont and de la Commune Street in Ville-Marie, but before taking action, the mayor wants to take stock of the situation, as she promised during her election campaign.

“Today, this is about evaluation and analysis, not dismantling,” she said. “The mobility in the city must be fluid. It must be planned, safe and respectful for everyone, and above all, it must be done with and for all citizens.”

These four bike paths were chosen because of safety concerns, complaints, petitions and priorities established by the boroughs involved, said Alan DeSousa, the city councillor responsible for mobility and infrastructure.

Ericka Alneus, interim leader of Projet Montréal, expressed concerns saying, “We see the mayor’s good intentions to review problematic routes, but I have many concerns about certain elements.”
