New Study Says eBikes Can Provide a Good and Fun Workout for Commuters

June 20, 2021 - A new study by researchers at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, have found that commutes were faster and more fun on e-bikes vs standard bicycles, while raising breathing and heart rates enough to contribute to fitness reports the New York Times.

Eventhough small-scale and short-term, the study’s findings suggest that “riding an e-bike, like other forms of active transport, can be as good for the person doing it as for the environment,” says Helaine Alessio, the chair of the department of kinesiology at Miami University, who led the new study with her colleague Kyle Timmerman and others.

Published in March in the Translational Journal of the American College of Sports Medicine, the study advocates safety and wearing bright, visible clothing while choosing “your commuting route wisely and to ook for bike paths and bike lanes whenever possible, even if you need to go a little bit out of your way.”
