June 26, 2023 - Olivia Chow, 66, has been elected the 66th mayor of Toronto edging out runner-up Ana Bailao after a whirlwind two-month campaign that saw more than 100 candidates registered reports blogTO.

Chow, formerly married to the late NDP leader Jack Layton, now adds the badge of Toronto Mayor to an illustrious political career that included a stint as a Toronto city councillor from 1992 to 2005, NDP MP for Trinity—Spadina from 2006 to 2014.
Chow, who failed a 2014 mayoral bid coming third, garnered more than 260,000 votes, and breaks several barriers in Toronto politics, becoming the first female mayor and the first mayor of a visible minority.
