Pandemic Bike Lanes Made Canadian Cities More Accessible and Should be Permanent

March 19, 2021 - According to a survey from Statistics Canada, more Canadians are now biking or walking to work than using public transit, and cycling advocates say that the temporary bike lanes set up in cities to accommodate the pandemic cycling boom should be made permanent reports CBC.ca

According to cycling advocacy organization Vélo Canada Bikes, several cities including Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and more have extended their bike lane networks since the pandemic began.

Research from the University of Toronto published last month suggests the pandemic bike lanes improved access to jobs, parks and stores – advocates say they should be permanent and expanded similar to what is being done in Europe.
