July 5, 2023 - (Vancouver, B.C.) Toronto-based PenguinPickUp is launching sustainable urban deliveries in Vancouver, B.C. this summer using URB-E cargo cycles and trailers according to Sam Starr, the company’s Manager, Sustainable Home Delivery via LinkedIn.
Since 2014, PenguinPickUp has offered Toronto residents convenient pick-up locations around the city for on-line purchases. In 2021 the company partnered with URB-E cargo cycles to run a 6-month PenguinPickUp2U service pilot program in downtown Toronto and provide residents with last-mile delivery solutions with the goals of decreasing carbon emissions and reducing the area’s traffic footprint.
URB-E is an eight-year-old company based in Pasadena, CA that makes electric bikes which can be hitched to small trailers that carry foldable storage containers that can haul up to 800lbs or 400kgs of cargo.
The PenguinPickUp2U service pilot program in Toronto didn’t quite go as planned and Starr, a Sustainable Freight & Cycle Logistics advisor, was hired in April to roll out the program in Vancouver where he’s based. “We are currently testing out the URB-E bikes here with the plan to scale things across the country,” he added.
