Planners and Politicians Need to Stop Ignoring eBikes the Top Selling EV Worldwide

June 7, 2022 - Politicians, planners, and even some climate activists are missing the booming e-bike revolution, despite the fact that 2- and 3-wheelers are at 275 million units worldwide vs under 17 million e-cars, reports Treehugger.

In the U.S. alone, e-bike sales were up 240% last year while in Europe, e-bikes are projected to outsell both gas and e-powered cars by the middle of this decade.

Yet BloombergNEF’s Electric Vehicle Outlook for 2022 ignores e-bikes writes Lloyd Alter noting that the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) did the same.

According to climate advisor Andrea Learned, “This is really lame. The stories of new-to-eBike riders tell are incredible validation. They are an undersold solution. Better media coverage of EV-bikes as real transportation and climate action could do a huge service to this transition.”
