March 24, 2023 - (Saint-George, Que.) Building on a partnership spanning more than 30 years, Rocky Mountain has acquired German sales company BikeAction GmbH. With the merger of both companies, Rocky Mountain will be able to better serve, understand and support the market in Europe in the future. BikeAction has been looking after Rocky Mountain fans in Germany, Austria, the Benelux countries, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Slovenia since 1988.
“Rocky Mountain has a rich history with BikeAction. When we started offering our bikes worldwide, one of the first markets we expanded into was Germany,” recalls Raymond Dutil, Executive Chairman of Rocky Mountain. “Since our first steps in Germany, BikeAction has always played an essential role in internationalizing our products and designs, allowing us to build a competitive global offering. This also includes the remarkable development of our “Powerplay” e-mountain bike product line. This is a special milestone for both companies.”
Going forward, BikeAction will continue to operate as an independent company, with support from Rocky Mountain’s headquarters in Canada. BikeAction will continue to work with its loyal dealers and partners as before, without changing the employee structure.
Christoph Goebel, owner and CEO of BikeAction, explains: “Since I have reached retirement age, I have been looking for a new home for BikeAction at Rocky Mountain. It feels like a natural step to bring both companies together. Mr. Dutil has always represented a family-run tradition at Rocky Mountain that is consistent with the ethos of our dealership business.”
Katy Bond, CEO of Rocky Mountain, is excited about the new official association of the two companies. “We have worked together trustingly for years, united by our passion for bicycles. As we begin a new chapter at Rocky Mountain, it became clear that we needed to be united under one roof. The vision for Rocky Mountains and BikeAction’s future is unique and purposeful. By creating a strong European base for the brand, we can encourage more people to get out there and experience the pure joy of our bikes.”
Rocky Mountain
In 1981 three friends made the decision to build their own mountain bikes to explore the terrain around Vancouver. Since then, the core tenet has remained the same – the group’s obsession and commitment to sharing their passion and expertise with bikers on the North Shore and worldwide. Still inspired by the mountains of Vancouver’s North Shore, home to one of the most diverse and rugged landscapes in the world, Rocky Mountain has developed high-performance mountain bikes for a variety of off-road disciplines. Rocky Mountain brings together designers, marketers, engineers, athletes, bike nerds, extreme bikers, strategists and writers dedicated to one simple thing – to make really good bikes so more people will love the ride. With offices in North Vancouver, British Columbia and Saint-Georges, Quebec, we have grown from a small startup in Vancouver to a global company. #LoveTheRide
