release by Share the Road Gran Fondo

August 1, 2025 - (Milton, Ont.) Join us for the exhilarating Share the Road Gran Fondo on Sunday, August 17, 2025, in the beautiful town of Milton, Halton! This inspiring cycling event is not just about the thrill of the ride; it’s about uniting our communities and advocating for safer cycling conditions across Ontario. Participants can choose from three exciting race distances: 40 km, 80 km, or 110 km, all set against the stunning backdrop of Halton Region, and e-bikes are welcome.

The day kicks off at the spacious Mattamy National Cycling Centre, where cyclists will enjoy a vibrant pre-ride and post-ride expo. With fully marked routes and well-supported rest stops every 20-30 km, you can focus on enjoying the ride while contributing to a vital cause.

Cycling connects us to our communities in unique and powerful ways. It’s more than just a mode of transportation—it’s freedom, joy, and independence. But today, too many cyclists face unsafe conditions on Ontario’s roads. This ride is about changing that.

By participating in the Share the Road Gran Fondo, you’re helping to create safer roads and communities for cyclists. Funds raised will directly support Share the Road’s mission, from advancing safer cycling infrastructure to delivering education campaigns and advocating for meaningful change.

This event honors OPP Sergeant Greg Stobbart, whose tragic death while cycling in 2006 inspired the creation of the Share the Road Cycling Coalition. Greg’s story serves as a powerful reminder of why we ride—to create safer roads for everyone, ensuring no other families have to face such devastating loss.

On Sunday August 17th come to ride with us in Milton and the neighbouring municipalities to experience cycling in Halton Region. Printed maps will be available at check-in. There are four supported rest stops on the 140 km route, two on the 100 km route and one on the 50 km route.

Funds raised will support initiatives aimed at improving cycling infrastructure and promoting safety for all cyclists. Together, let’s honor the legacy of OPP Sergeant Greg Stobbart and make a difference in our community. Mark your calendars and prepare for an unforgettable day of cycling and camaraderie!

Help raise awareness for cyclists’ safety and be a voice for the cycling community provincially, and in communities across Ontario. ©

Share the Road Coalition has had the privilege of being a voice for the cycling community provincially, and in communities across Ontario since 2007. Share the Road Gran Fondo is the first Gran Fondo in our organization’s history.

We’ve mobilized cyclists, and cycling champions, in communities across Ontario; passed three changes to the Highway Traffic Act, advocated successfully for policy changes and infrastructure funding, and conducted safety and awareness campaigns together with our partners to educate motorists about the importance of sharing the road.

The year ahead will see us continue to lobby at Queen’s Park via our “All Party Cycling Caucus” of MPPs as we advocate for changing the narrative and further legislative change.
