While renowned car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW have long been investing in battery research, Stromer recognizes the importance of contributing to sustainable innovations as the frontrunner in the fast e-bike segment.

In collaboration with their innovation partner TD Hitech Energy, Stromer has dedicated significant efforts to the development of a next-generation solid ceramic battery for e-bikes and is proud to showcase their first functional prototype battery at Eurobike.

Solid-state batteries represent a groundbreaking technology in energy storage and offer a range of advantages specifically for e-bikes. Moving forward, Stromer will strongly focus on further advancing this new generation of batteries.

The development objectives outlined in the specification sheets include achieving low-temperature charging capabilities down to -30 °C (with a target of -20 °C), significantly enhanced safety features compared to current batteries, and reduced charging times through the use of fast chargers (aiming for a 5C rate, equivalent to just 12 minutes, as opposed to the current 3C rate of approximately 20 minutes).

Tomi Viiala, Co-CEO of Stromer, states, “As an innovative brand, we strive to be actively engaged in the early stages of research and development for emerging technologies.

The solid-state ceramic battery is our holy grail. Although it will take several more years before this technology can be employed in series production due to the current high production costs and limited battery capacity, it holds immense potential for the future.

Notably, it offers significant advantages in terms of safety and incredibly fast charging times, estimated to be around 10 times faster than conventional lithium batteries.”
