June 10, 2025 - “Is that an e-bike?” asked the driver next to me. I had been riding for only a minute before I got the first question about the eye-catching new Electra Townie Go! – it wouldn’t be the last.

The iconic Townie line was first introduced by California-based Electra in 2003 with their patented “Flat Foot Technology” that allowed a seated rider to place both feet on the ground at a stop.
The Townie became the most popular bike in the USA and in 2013 the Townie Go! e-bike was unveiled. The next year Trek acquired Electra and earlier this year the company re-introduced the Townie Go! as a new throttle e-bike.
We were stoked when the opportunity came up to test it and the beautiful Aloe Vera frame, tan tires, and classic lines turned heads as I rode it around Toronto this spring.
The 2025 edition features a 500W rear hub motor with 60Nm of torque and three levels of torque-sensing pedal assist that smoothly matches the rider’s cadence.

The new thumb-activated throttle is at the ready to gently accelerate you up hills or to a maximum speed of 20mph/32kmh.
The UL-certified 500Wh battery provides up to 50mi/80km of range on a single charge and is enclosed within the downtube and can only be removed by a bike shop offering theft protection and a seamless look.
The EasyMag charger connects to the bike’s port via a magnetic contact, and the wall-mountable base has a lighted display to show the charge level. A full charge is completed in 5.5 hours.

The colour display on the controller shows the time, battery charge, range, e-assist level, and light information.
The Townie Go! meets the stringent, third-party UL 2849 certification, which evaluates the entire electrical system of an e-bike including the battery, charger and motor.
A MicroShift Mezzo 8-speed derailleur and trigger-style shifters pairs with a Shimano cassette offering a nice range of gearing for climbing or cruising the flats.
Rush hydraulic disc brakes offer smooth and sure stopping power and balloon tires cushion the bumps while gripping the road. The ergonomic saddle boasts shock-absorbing elastomers to further ensure rider comfort.

A Herrmans’ MR8 LED headlight delivers 180 lumens of illumination, and the Sate-Lite M-15 taillight offers both an automatic brake light and user-controlled turn signals for safe communication with other road users. Plus, the lights will stay on for up to three hours after the battery is drained.
Resin platform pedals ensure a good grip for all types of footwear – perfect for commuting, running errands, or taking a child to the park.

It was impressive how smooth the rear hub motor and throttle were – perhaps the best I’ve tried. The compliments and interest aside, Electra’s re-imagined Townie Go! has been thoughtfully crafted to make saying “yes” to a fun-filled bike ride as easy as possible.
The Townie Go! has a step-through aluminum frame for lightweight and strength and comes in two sizes to suit a wide range of rider heights, plus the seat post is quick-adjust to fine-tune the fit.
The MIK HD alloy cargo rack holds panniers or a child seat safely and securely, and the bike is rated to 300lbs/136kg of riders and cargo.

A sturdy alloy kickstand supports the bike during loading or while parked, though a double kickstand would be a good addition if carrying a child.
The Townie Go! also features a Quad Lock Mount and Universal Adaptor which allows you to secure your phone to the bike and utilize the Trek Central app to access detailed information like range, battery charge, turn-by-turn directions, and more all at your fingertips.

In the USA, the Townie Go! S is offered as a Class 2 (throttle up to 20mph/32kph) or as a Class 3 e-bike with pedal assist up to 28mph/45kph (not legal in California and not sold in Canada).
Servicing is also facilitated by an external junction box at the stem which allows quick and easy access to cables that are shape and color-coded.
The Townie Go! is available in four gorgeous colours: Shark Grey, Vapor, Orchid, and Aloe Vera. The chain guard and fenders are colour-matched, and the Shark Grey and Aloe Vera colour ways have tan tires, saddle, and grips for a retro feel, while the Vapour and Orchid bikes have black accents for a more modern look.
With its stylish design, effortless power assist, new throttle, and thoughtful extras, the Electra Townie Go! is a great choice for a daily or weekend cyclist looking for a comfortable, accessible, and adaptable e-bike at an accessible price point.
