The Bicycle Parking Revolution is Here and Underway in New York City

February 13, 2021 - Based in New York City, Oonee’s bicycle pods, which hold about six or seven bikes, could be the future of bicycle parking according to a recent report by Transportation Alternatives, a non-profit organization in NYC which works to change the city’s transportation priorities reports Streetsblog NYC.

Oonee bicycle pods.

Oonee company founder, Shabazz Stuart, says the pods, which function like bike corrals and are unlocked with a free phone app or key card, should be accessible to everyone and the costs covered by avertising similar to bus shelters, newsstands and LinkNYC.

“People should be empowered to request one of these for their curb space. Why should a person with a car be unilaterally allowed to say, ‘I’m going to take up eight feet in front of this random building?’,” says Stuart.
