eNews – Toronto Council Makes Midtown Yonge Complete Street Permanent

April 17, 2023 - On February 7, Toronto City Council voted 22–4 to accept the staff report and the unanimous recommendation of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee (IEC) to make the Midtown Yonge Complete Street Pilot permanent.

More than 8,000 people signed the petition, along with thousands who provided personal comments and sent emails. Sixty-four supporters came to speak at City Hall.

According the Yonge4All move- ment, the Midtown Yonge Complete Street is just the first step. REimagining Yonge will remake the corridor between Sheppard Ave and Finch Ave with detailed design beginning in 2023, and YongeTOmorrow will bring a complete street on Yonge from College to Queen with implementation to begin in 2024.

“We are thankful for Mayor Tory, the Infrastructure and Environment Commit- tee, and all the Councillors who voted in favour of making complete streets a per- manent part of our public realm. We are grateful for the hard work and support provided by Toronto City Staff, Councillors Jennifer McKelvie, Dianne Saxe, Amber Morley, Josh Matlow, Mike Colle, and Brad Bradford, without whom these projects wouldn’t have succeeded,” stated a Cycle Toronto press release.
