UK’s Pedal Me Research Shows eCargo Bike Deliveries are Faster & More Efficient

January 22, 2021 - The UK-based Pedal Me’s service fleet of cargo and e-cargo bikes generally operate within a 9-mile radius of Central London. The company transports passengers up to 150kg, and cargo up 300 pounds. Open 7 days a week the company also offers custom services.

Their research shows that in central London bikes are likely to move significantly faster than vans or cars. The competitive speeds can be largely explained by the fact that cargo bikes can move past stationary traffic, are allowed to use bus lanes, and benefit from separated cycling infrastructure. Beside the speed of movement, e-cargo bikes also benefit from shorter routes.

Also e-cargo bikes do not need to waste time on finding parking space, a considerable burden for delivery vans (studies show this takes between 9-15 minutes).

The limited capacity of e-cargo bikes can be a deceiving aspect of their efficiency for large scale last mile delivery operations. The company also looked at the huge impact e-cargo bikes can have beyond more efficient logistics for making kinder and healthier cities.
