Video of Bizarre Bike Lane Incident goes Viral as Driver Enters Wrong Way on Cherry St. in TO

July 14, 2023 - (Toronto, ON) A stunning video showing a car driving in a bikes-only lane across a bridge on Cherry Street South has gone viral and sent ripples through Toronto’s cycling community reports CP24.com – watch the video below posted by @malliuh on TikTok and tweeted by @wardFORpeople.

The bridge was first opened in October 2022, and the confused driver in a Jeep can be seen driving across it, but in the 2-way bike lane, after crossing over a blue and green road divider in error – clearly the car lanes are on the other side of the guardrail. Cyclists are forced to get out of the way and walk their bikes alongside the vehicle while voicing their frustrations about the situation.

A spokesperson for Waterfront Toronto told CP24 that this is the first instance of a car driving down the bikes-only path, and to prevent further incidents, “…will be adding additional signs for motorists travelling westbound on Commissioners Street.”
