VOTE for Toronto’s New Mayor June 26 – Survey Results of 10 Priority Actions for Safer Streets

release by Cycle Toronto

June 26, 2023 - Toronto’s mayoral by-election is today – vote from 10:00am – 8:00pm. Have you voted yet? Since John Tory’s resignation in February, a long list of candidates have been campaigning to become the new mayor of Toronto. The winner will play a crucial role in guiding city council’s policies on transit, active transportation, and the environment. This is in addition to key decisions on the expansion of Toronto’s cycling network to ensure a safe, healthy, and vibrant cycling city for all.

Some eligible voters don’t vote because they think they are ineligible or that it will be too complicated. If you are:

•              18 years or older,
•              a Canadian citizen,
•              and a resident of Toronto,

you are eligible to vote! Make sure to bring photo ID or a document with your address from your bank, employer, or utility provider. Polls are open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Toronto’s 2022 municipal election saw just 29.7% of eligible residents cast a vote. That was down from an already-low 40.9% in the 2018 election. Together we can reverse this disappointing trend. Bring a friend along to the polls, ask a coworker if they’ve voted, or text a family member to remind them about the election today. With so much at stake, it is critical that everyone has their say in who will lead our city for the next three years.

If you need help deciding, read what the candidates have to say regarding 10 priority actions that would make our city’s streets safer for anyone who walks, rolls, or bikes. Tell politicians that cycling matters.

See you at the polls!
