We’re in An Electric Bike Boom Caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic

October 22, 2020 - The recent bicycle boom resulting from the coronavirus pandemic has also seen a big surge in e-bike sales. Interest in e-bikes is gaining traction all over the world, as these slick and multi-functional bicycles are allowing more people to access cycling for instant mobility with social distancing.

New cyclists, commuters, healthcare workers, along with multiple businesses are turning to e-bikes and e-cargo bikes as a mobility solution. Global courier companies like Fedex, DHL and UPS are utilizing these innovative e-cargo bikes for deliveries solving parking, fuel and congestion problems.

There have been other bike booms, including busts, according to Carlton Reid, author and major media correspondent, but Claudia Wasko, Vice President and General Manager of Bosch eBike Systems in the Americas, tells Treehugger that the current boom is part of a trend that has been building for some time and isn’t going away, “I’m 100% convinced that it is here to stay, that e-bikes are a great way of dealing with congestion and fighting obesity,” says Wasko.
