Why More Australians are Ditching Cars for eBikes & eCargo Bikes – They Pay for Themselves

October 19, 2023 - A growing number of Australians are turning to e-bikes and e-cargo bikes for transportation, given rising gas prices and the high cost of insuring and maintaining cars reports the Guardian.

As the e-bike uptake grows and rental companies like Lug+Carrie spread across Australia, advocates are calling for more bike lanes and financial incentives as well. As a result, relatively affordable electric bikes have stood out as a cost-cutting alternative to gas-guzzling cars while e-bike rental companies are gaining momemtum.

In 2017 about 9,000 e-bikes were sold in Australia, but more than 100,000 were sold in 2022 and this year’s sales are on track to be even higher.
