Women in Cycling Launches in Italy with Kick Off Webinar on January 29

release by Women in Cycling

January 17, 2025 - We’re excited to announce the launch of Women in Cycling Italy! This new branch will kick off with a webinar on January 29 at 12 PM. All Italian speakers are warmly invited to join the online launch here and explore more about Women in Cycling Italy on their website.

The launch of Women in Cycling Italy and other similar initiatives comes at a crucial time for the cycling industry. New EU rules aimed at improving gender balance in corporate boards have recently come into effect, requiring companies to meet specific targets by June 30, 2026.

Moreover, Ursula von der Leyen’s plan for the first 100 days of the new Commission includes A Roadmap for Women’s Rights. Gender equity is soon hopefully no longer just a “nice to have” but a legal obligation. These changes highlight the urgent need for greater inclusivity, making the Women in Cycling movement more relevant than ever.

Women in Cycling Italy is part of a growing movement and an offspring of the Women in Cycling (WiC) network, initiated in 2020 by ECF, Cycling Industries Europe, Velokonzept, Mobycon, and CONEBI. The network aims to help women gain visibility, impact, and leadership roles within the cycling sector.

Other recently launched branches include Femmes à Vélo in France, Women in Cycling Germany, Women in Cycling Switzerland, and Women in Cycling Mountain Biking. We encourage women around the world to take inspiration and start similar initiatives in their own countries!

Additionally, Cycling Industries Europe introduced a CIE Women in Cycling Expert Group for its members with a focus on boosting diversity in the industry and to foster collaboration across the sector. The group’s first in-person event, the Summit Series Event, will take place in Mallorca from March 25-27, 2025 and is hosted by Outside Advice and BikeBusinessHub. More info and registrations here.

Join us in celebrating and supporting this movement. Together, we can shape a more inclusive and equitable cycling sector!
