February 14, 2022 - While the U.S. lags behind Europe when it comes to cycling infrastructure, a recent survey by National Geographic says 70% in America’s 50 biggest metro areas indicate they’re interested in biking, but 50% are too afraid due to safety issues, reports Axios.

Yet some major US cities like Oakland, Boston, Chicago, and Austin, and even smaller communities like Providence, Rhode Island, have made significant improvements and boosted their cycling rates by as much as 59%.

Still, overall rates of biking in the U.S. remain quite low, and for cycling to boom many more miles of safe bike lanes will need to be built.
