The Humble Cargo Bike is Increasingly Replacing Cars, Trucks and Vans to Reduce Emissions

July 4, 2022 - The humble cargo bike can do everything, from helping families with their errands to increasing efficiency for companies delivering products and services, while reducing emissions, congestion and increasing safety, experts say in an article by Tanya Mohn in the New York Times for a special report on Climate Solutions.

According to a study done with the European Cyclists’ Federation’s participation, replacing a single diesel van with a cargo bike for inner-city deliveries can lower carbon dioxide emissions by five tons a year.

Using cargo bikes to transport goods is not new in many Asian, African and South and Central American cities, but they are increasingly being used in Europe and other developed countries to replace greenhouse gas-emitting cars, trucks and vans.
