U.S. Postal Service is Testing eCargo Bikes Built in USA for Mail Delivery

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is testing delivering mail with eco-friendly e-cargo bikes, that are built in the US by Montana-based Coaster Cycles reports Electrek.

Technically an e-cargo tricycle, the new electric mail bikes are built on the Freighter AW platform, which can be modified for various types of commercial e-cargo bike applications.

Powered by a Bosch Cargo Line mid-drive motor with 85 Nm of torque and a 500-Wh battery, the automatic transmission is based on an Enviolo CVT. The giant rear cargo box has 72 cubic feet (over 2,000 liters) of space, and can hold up to 400 lb. (181 kg) of mail.

Apparently USPS is required to execute environmental assessments and is also dealing with several lawsuits recently filed regarding the high percentage of gas-guzzling vehicles it ordered.
