Vélo Canada Bikes Pedal Poll 2025 Results Plus New Count Mode for 2026 and Webinar May 6

release by Vélo Canada Bikes

Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo is an annual community-science project engaging hundreds of volunteers across Canada as they count road and path users to evaluate the state of cycling in our communities, get a “snapshot” of what cycling looks like in communities across Canada, and build the case for more and better infrastructure.

2025 count results and analysis out now
The 2025 count captured 49,114 people on bikes across Canada in a mode share count which included pedestrians, personal vehicles and large vehicles. These results have been synthesized into community-specific and national-level infographics and data tables to support evidence-based planning and advocacy. We invite you to view, download, and share these results.

New count mode for 2026: Micromobility and active transportation
Canadian communities are seeing a surge in micromobility, creating both opportunities and challenges for planners, governments, industry and users. To capture a snapshot of these diverse travel modes, we are launching a new micromobility count taking place over five days between June 2nd and 7th, 2026.

Volunteer counters will help measure the presence of these emerging micromobilty modes and at the same time contribute new longitudinal data for Pedal Poll’s key metric: people on bikes.

Registrations to support this year’s count will open soon. Watch this space and our website.

May 6 webinar on the new count
Join MSc student Amanda Dunn, who will discuss the development of a new micromobility count for the 2026 edition of Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo. Amanda will present an overview of previous studies, legislation and community feedback that guided the development of the new categories, how volunteers can identify different types of micromobility devices, and how the results will support advocacy in Canada.
